Breakfast Meeting with the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for Professors and Senior Administrators

The excitement, laughter, dance moves, selfies and tons of the fun associated with the VC-CEGENSA Breakfast Session returned with a twist this year.  For the 2023 session, senior female faculty and administrators of the University joined the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah for a breakfast/network meeting at Aburi. 

It can be recalled that last year, as part of the Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy’s (CEGENSA) mentoring activities for the year, it organized for the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah-Amfo, to have breakfast with early and mid-career female faculty of the University to provide an informal platform for the participating female faculty to have a conversation with Professor Amfo.

This year was the turn of the senior female faculty and administrators. It is a rare sight to see this group of people reconnecting leisurely, enjoying brunch and entertainment on a weekend so this get-together was a joy to behold! 

The Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar took turns to share snippet of their family and professional life with the participants, while motivating and urging them on to greatness. They also answered questions on women’s health, work-family balance and mentor-mentee relationship. 

Prior to the interactive session, some of the participants joined Professor Amfo on a health walk from the Ayi Mensah Toll Booth to the Hephzibah Christian Centre.  

Sharing their expectations before the session, Professors Charlotte Wrigley-Asante, Head, Department of Geography and Resource Development; Margaret Amankwah-Poku, Warden, Volta Hall and Charity Akotia, former Dean, School of Social Sciences hoped to destress, socialise and build new networks; and their expectations were fully realised!

Making brief remarks after the event, Prof. Amfo pointed to how intimate this edition was. She hoped that the participants were inspired to put themselves out for more leadership positions. 

Mrs. Agyei-Mensah noted the importance of the event, saying, ‘this is a pleasant and productive way to spend a Saturday. Often, we get caught up in our work, but this has given us the opportunity to dialogue, reflect on the challenges and look within for solutions’.

Earlier, in her welcome statement, Dr. Deborah Atobrah, Director of CEGENSA, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for making time for event and their readiness to share the lessons and experiences they had garnered over years.

As is the tradition, the children who accompanied their mothers were not left out of the fun. They were engaged in creative activities such as paper craft, painting, puzzles, making homemade play dough and simple science experiments.

The event was interspersed with aerobics, dancing competition and a photo shoot. Dr. Abena Kyere, Research Fellow, CEGENSA, moved the vote of thanks. Undoubtedly, the VC-CEGENSA Breakfast Session has been fully embraced!
