CEGENSA Partners African Climate Collaborative to Champion Women-Led Climate Solutions on International Women’s Day 2026
The Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy (CEGENSA), University of Ghana, joined the African Climate Collaborative (ACC) and the Master Foundation to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026 with a dynamic event aimed at amplifying women’s leadership in climate action.
Held on 16 June 2026 at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), the event was themed “Give to Gain: Catalysing Women-Led Climate Solutions.” It brought together climate innovators, entrepreneurs, community leaders, development practitioners, and advocates to showcase innovative solutions addressing some of Ghana’s most pressing environmental challenges.
The programme served as a platform for organisations, groups, and individuals to present locally driven climate initiatives and compete for a grant of GHS 100,000 to scale up and strengthen their projects. Through this initiative, the organisers sought to promote sustainable, community-centred approaches to climate resilience while highlighting the critical role women play in driving environmental innovation and social transformation.
Advancing Women’s Leadership in Climate Action
The event underscored the growing recognition that women are at the forefront of responding to climate challenges within their communities. Participants showcased a diverse range of initiatives focused on climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, environmental conservation, clean energy, waste management, and community empowerment.
Through presentations and discussions, innovators demonstrated how grassroots solutions can contribute meaningfully to climate adaptation and mitigation efforts while creating economic opportunities and improving community well-being.

Creating Opportunities for Innovation and Impact
A key feature of the programme was the opportunity for participants to compete for financial support to expand their climate initiatives. The GHS 100,000 grant competition was designed to encourage innovation, strengthen promising projects, and provide emerging climate leaders with the resources needed to increase their impact.
The event highlighted the importance of investing in women-led solutions, recognising that sustainable climate action requires inclusive approaches that harness the knowledge, experiences, and leadership of women and marginalised groups.
Strengthening Partnerships for a Sustainable Future
The collaboration between the African Climate Collaborative, the Master Foundation, and CEGENSA reflects a shared commitment to promoting gender-responsive climate action and fostering sustainable development. By creating spaces for learning, networking, and innovation, the partnership seeks to empower women and communities to develop practical solutions to environmental challenges.
As climate change continues to affect livelihoods and ecosystems across Ghana and beyond, initiatives such as “Give to Gain: Catalysing Women-Led Climate Solutions” demonstrate the transformative potential of investing in local innovation and inclusive leadership.

CEGENSA’s Commitment
CEGENSA remains dedicated to advancing gender equality and social inclusion across all sectors, including climate action and environmental sustainability. Through strategic partnerships, research, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives, the Centre continues to support efforts that empower women and promote equitable and sustainable development.
The International Women’s Day 2026 commemoration served as a powerful reminder that empowering women to lead climate solutions is not only a matter of equality but also a critical pathway towards building resilient communities and a sustainable future for all.
