CEGENSA Host Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Former President, Liberia and the Team from the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Centre

The UG Centre for Gender Studies Advocacy hosted former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and the team from the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center, in a discussion on women’s access to public leadership roles, highlighting the importance of advancing women's leadership and exploring ways to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in leadership roles.

Aimed at inspiring the next generation of female leaders in Ghana, the discussants, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle Constituency; Madam Yawa Hansen-Quao, Social Entrepreneur and Leadership Advocate and Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, Medical Director and Humanitarian Surgeon shared their experiences and leadership journeys. They seized the Question-and-Answer Session to interact with the audience on the how to promote equity, particularly in governance.

Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expressed her delight to be in Ghana and urged the young ladies to forge ahead in their respective fields. Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor, also stated the importance of working harder as women to bring each other up.

At the end of the events, participants noted with satisfaction their desire for more such programmes to be organised.
