Adriana has over thirteen years of professional experience undertaking both qualitative and quantitative research on sexual and reproductive health and maternal health issues. She currently co-teaches research methodology-related courses at RIPS and the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD). She has conducted, supervised and coordinated large scale surveys, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews on a variety of projects across Ghana. Study participants on these projects have ranged from women with abortion experiences in hospitals in Accra to rural residents in the Eastern, Northern and Volta Regions of Ghana. Adriana is currently an IUSSP Urban Family Planning Research Fellow (Cohort 2). Her project, titled “Exploring Use, Non-Use and Discontinuation of Modern Contraception among Urban Youth in Accra, Ghana”, qualitatively examines contraceptive use dynamics among emerging adults in higher education, apprenticeships and informal employment. This study also explores the urban development and family planning nexus in Ghana.
Research Interest
My research interests are centered on maternal, child and sexual and reproductive health issues. More specifically, I have studied women’s sexual and reproductive health in Ghana which includes their abortion experiences, contraceptive use and unmet need. I am also interested in the sexual health and sexual risk-taking behavior of adolescents in an urban poor locality. Finally, my interest in the social research process has enabled me to coordinate large scale survey research on HIV, malaria, and even bridewealth.
